Lauryn O. King is an accomplished ceramic artist and educator with a BFA from Xavier University and a strong background in ceramics, including throwing, handbuilding, sculpture, and glaze formulation. I have extensive professional experience as a studio artist at SKT Ceramics and ZPots where I honed my skills in creating high-quality ceramic pieces. I am a passionate educator with experience teaching 3D design and ceramics as an adjunct professor at Xavier University and Miami University, and am dedicated to inspiring and developing students’ technical skill and creativity in ceramics and three-dimensional art.

Professional Experience

2024-Present Adjunct Art Professor at Miami University, Oxford, OH

-Teaching an introduction to ceramics course where students learn fundamental ceramic techniques, including wheel throwing, handbuilding, glazing, and firing processes

-Integrate concepts such as texture, form, function and craftsmanship encouraging students to develop critical thinking skills in their work.

2024-Present Adjunct Art Professor at Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH

-Teaching an introduction to 3D design course where students learn about the elements and principles of 3D design, prototyping, and craftsmanship.

-Students also develop critical thinking skills to discuss and analyze artwork in peer-reviewed critiques.

2021-Present Studio Artist at SKT Ceramics, Cincinnati, OH

-Maintain and operate RAM press, slab rollers, pugmills, gas and electric kilns.

-Create functional pottery using slip casting, handbuilding and RAM pressing.

-Utilizes an underglaze screenprinting process to transfer images onto pottery.

-Create glazes, slip and maintain an adequate supply of materials.

-Started at an introductory level and was quickly promoted to Team Lead where I trained and managed a team of people to build small electrical panels focusing on high quality craftsmanship.
